Catapult, Baule, Ivory Coast

H: 20 cm (7,9″)

Catapults or sling shots were used amongst the Baule people to hunt fruit bats which were considered a delicacy. Often a Catapults or Sling Shot was used as gift o a father who had got a son.

Today, children use the slingshots to scare birds away so they don’t eat the family’s ripening millet stalks. For play, it is used to see who can hit the farthest milk can.
