THE KALPASUTRA SCHOOL

This school, one of the ealiest styles of miniature painting, has it´s roots in western India, and was later brought by the Muslims to the districts of Gujarat and Rajasthan. The period spanded the 11th to the 16th centuries. The buddhism of India also influenced this school.

The motifs are often drawn from the lives of the saints. Lapis blue, carmine and gold are often dominant in these paintings.
