Pierre Alechinsky, born 1927, Belgian painter, print- and film maker. Member of the Cobra-group 1949-51; after this he went to Paris. Alechinskys paintings are imaginative, expressive abstractions, executed with precision and virtuosity, among other things he is inspired by Japanese calligraphy. Vitality and poetry are united with a sense of humor in the mask motifs and a spontaneous way of life. From around the 1960s he worked in a very specific personal style with the textural effects of the oil color and from 1965 with a top field in light acrylic colors, surrounded by dark outlines.
Alechinsky has a large production of graphic works and book illustrations. He is represented in several Danish museums including Louisiana.
