Lega

Democratic Republic of Congo

After their exodus from Uganda in the 17th century, the Lega tribe eventually settled on the west bank of the Lulala River in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Lega traditionally lived by hunting and gathering, exploiting the rich resources of the forest. During the colonial period Lega labor was used to cultivate bananas and rice to feed the miners. Today the Lega work in the mines as well.
