Contemporary miniature painting i Rajahstan essentially entails the copying of past masterpieces. A few select painters create independent works, or know the ancient techniques. Among these are Shanker Kumawat, born in 1958 in Udaipur, Rajasthan.
Kumawat is an honors graduate of Mohan Lal Sukadia University, where he recieved a Bachelors Degree in FineArts.
He taught at the Rajastan Lalit Kala Academy in Jaipur from 1985 to 1991.
Kumawat has shown his work at many exibitions in India. Most recently at the FineArts and Crafts Society in New Delhi, and the Contemporary Art Gallery in Ahmadabad.
