Lunar Mask, Western Nepal
H: 14 cm (5,5″), W: 14 cm (5,5″)
What makes this mask so special is that it has, so to speak, made itself out of Burl Wood a special wood that only grows in very high altitude in the Himalaya. It has undergone no processing except for the two holes that was drilled for the straps to wear the mask.
Patina and color shows signs of usage and is evidence that this object is genuine and old (from about 1950 or earlier).
The black color shows that it was kept indoor heated with intensive wood fire.
In spite of age and wear, the mask is in perfect and nice condition.
Provenance: Private Belgian collection.
