Tarumba Currency Spear, Zaïre (DR Congo)

This elegant and decorative, large iron spear-shaped figure has been used as currency in the  Kisangani region, between the Lomami and Lualaba Rivers in Zaïre.
They were also used by the Tarumba and Likele people as bride-price.

Condition: Very good contition. The iron is coated with a thick and hard rust layer. In addition, it appears as a very nice sculpture mounted on a specially crafted setting.

Dimensions: H: 149 /151 cm, W:21 cm.

Age: Est. late 19th Century.

Provenance: Belgian private collection.
